Graphite
- The original "headless" Steinberger bass guitar was constructed using graphite rather than traditional woods. This resulted in a very light, but very durable, instrument. Graphite is actually a molded epoxy resin strengthened by carbon and glass fibers. The material is said to have twice the density and ten times the stiffness of wood, as well as being both stronger and far lighter than steel.
