Gigaflop
- Not a new word, but one that many people are just now beginning to hear for the first time due to recent advances in computer technology. The gigaflop is a measure of speed used in computers. One gigaflop equals one billion floating-point operations per second. The word comes from giga (often pronounced jiga), which is a prefix meaning billion; and flop, which is a clever abbreviation for FLOating Point.
