Dog ear
- "Dog ear" is a common nickname for a P90-styled single-coil pickup with two flanges, or dog ears, on the ends of the pickup for mounting the pickup to either a solidbody guitar such as the Les Paul Special or a semi-hollowbody guitar like the Epiphone Elitist Casino. The P90 was Gibson's first successful single-coil pickup, created in the '50s. This style of pickup has been popular on guitars from several manufacturers since then. Sonically speaking, a dog ear P90 is no different from a soap bar P90 - the difference lies entirely within the mounting options.
