Dielectric
- A material that is highly resistive to conducting electricity can be referred to as a dielectric. In short, it's an insulator. Printed circuit boards (PCB's), wiring jackets electrical outlets, lamp sockets, etc. are all made from dielectric materials. Since electrical devices often get hot it can sometimes be implied that a good dielectric must also be resistive to heat transfer, as is the case with the materials used in the aforementioned applications.
