DVD-ROM
- Short for DVD Read Only Memory. Introduced in 1997, this read-only DVD disc format is used for storing data as well as audio and video. DVD-ROMs work in DVD-ROM or DVD-RAM drives, but not DVD video players. However, most DVD-ROM drives will play DVD-Video movies. The DVD-ROM specification supports disks with capacities of from 4.7 GB to 17 GB (in the future, this might expand) and access rates of 600 KBps to 1.3 MBps.
