Choke
- An electronic component. A choke is an inductor or coil often found in vacuum tube amplifier circuits. Also called a filter choke, it consists of a coil of wire wound around an iron core; the purpose of a filter choke is to allow DC to pass but force AC (generally the sound wave passing through the amplifier) to follow a less resistive path. The more windings of wire and amount of iron in the core of the inductor, the more inductance (which translates to resistance) a choke will have, especially for higher frequencies.
