Capture: Generically the act of recording audio or video can be thought of as capturing. Sampling is a form of capturing. But the word capture is often used in video circles to specifically refer to the actual process of getting video off of a tape-based system and into an editing system. The capture process usually starts with a process known as logging, which is where someone looks at all the raw footage and logs the sections that seem most promising for final production. These clips are then captured into the editing system, which can occur one-by-one while being logged, or in a separate operation known as a batch capture where all of the selected or logged clips from a given reel of tape are captured automatically by the system.
