Bitsetting
- Bitsetting, also known as bit mode compatibility or compatibility bitsetting, refers to the process of changing the book type field value of a DVD-plus-R/RW disc to the value of a DVD-ROM, allowing playback in most standard DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. Older DVD playback devices won't recognize the newer book type field values, but bitsetting a DVD+R will fool the device into loading the DVD+R as a DVD-ROM.
