Internships at Sweetwater

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I apply?

Because internships fill up very quickly, you should apply 3–6 months in advance. And because of the high demand for relatively few positions, we must narrow consideration to students currently attending college, preferably entering their junior or senior year.

Can I get school credit for my internship?

Yes. Depending on the requirements set forth by your college, we can usually ensure you get as many hours as you need to qualify, as well as fill out the necessary paperwork — even grade your performance — for your school.

Are there dorms or places to stay if I'm not from the Fort Wayne area?

Although we do not have specific housing opportunities for interns, we can help point you to the more affordable hotels and apartments in the area. Many interns also choose to stay with local friends or relatives. Please take this expense into consideration before you apply.

Do interns ever get hired by Sweetwater as employees?

Yes, a LOT of them! Being an intern is a great opportunity to see inside Sweetwater and determine if it might interest to you after graduation. Plus, an internship allows you to demonstrate your skills, character, and work ethic. Although we can't guarantee you a position with the company after you've graduated, it certainly doesn't hurt to give us a chance to get to know you!

Is there a dress code?

You bet. No jeans and T-shirts here. This is a professional work environment. The dress code is professional business casual. We'll also expect you to conduct yourself in a professional manner in every way while here. That includes proper attendance.

As a company, we love having students working alongside us, sharing in practical knowledge and real-world work experience. Two of our departments currently offer internships, in a variety of disciplines:

Recording Studio

We have internships available year-round in our Recording Studio for college students majoring in Music Technology/Audio Production and Engineering, or in some cases, Music Business. Typical internships are 40 hours per week for four weeks. Although the internship is unpaid (as is the custom in the recording industry), it's an amazing opportunity to observe how a world-class studio functions, as well as to learn a lot more about tracking, mixing, mastering, interfacing with customers, and producing both music and commercials. Depending on qualifications, you may also spend part of the internship in our Performance Theatre doing live sound, or being involved in some minor video applications.

Marketing Department

We offer a variety of internships in our Marketing Department. Many paid and unpaid internships are available year-round, and can be customized around your class schedule. These include:

  • Commercial Photography
  • Video
  • Graphic Design
  • Web Design
  • Copywriting/Copy Editing
  • Public Relations
