Before I Apply

What if I have skills that aren't covered in the online application?

We encourage you to also submit a resume and a cover letter.

Does Sweetwater do drug testing?

We will ask that you submit to a drug test prior to any offer of employment; any job offer is contingent upon successfully passing the test.

Can I work from home?

While it is true we are a technology company with extensive computer capabilities, our culture and continuous training programs are so strong that we do require our employees to live here in the Fort Wayne area. Sorry, no telecommuting.

What happens after I've applied?

Remember that a lot of people apply to Sweetwater, so please be patient. We will confirm that we've received your application, and then our Human Resources Staff and appropriate Management will review it to determine whether to schedule an initial interview. After the preliminary telephone interview, we may ask you to come to our headquarters in Fort Wayne for a day of face-to-face interviews. During this visit, you'll meet the appropriate people, take a few tests, tour our headquarters, and get a first-hand look at our unique environment. If chosen, a candidate can usually expect to hear from us within two weeks of their interview.

What if I'm not chosen?

Competition for job openings at Sweetwater is intense and often nationwide. Even if we fill the job you've applied for with another candidate, we will keep your application for approximately six months. After that time, you should reapply if you're interested in a newly-opened position. Make sure to bring us up to date on any new experience or education you've attained since your last application.

How to STAND OUT from the Crowd

We receive hundreds of applications every month from talented people from all over the country. Our challenge is to find the best of the best and to bring them to work for Sweetwater. Therefore, it's important to take advantage of the interview to let your creativity and uniqueness shine through. Here are a few tips:

Assure us that you're qualified

Explain why you are a Pro Tools guru, a live sound expert, a keyboard whiz, a super salesperson, a tech-support genius, etc. Emphasize whatever skills you think will set you apart from your competition.

Highlight your achievements

Tell us how and why you were the best person on your team, or a great leader. List awards or other recognition you've received. Sell us on why we need to hire you.

Demonstrate your creativity

Let us know about special projects, musical or not, you've successfully completed. Many applicants will bring CDs they've played on, videos they've produced, diagrams of systems they've designed, etc.

What We Look For

Education and Experience

For jobs which require strong technical knowledge, a degree in music technology/audio engineering is extremely helpful. However, we also know that "smart" isn't always determined by just a diploma. Although most of the job openings posted on our career website are ultimately filled by college graduates, we do on occasion hire someone who is self-taught and/or has some music industry experience.

A Great Outlook

Visitors often comment, "Wow, it seems like everyone walking around here is smiling." That didn't happen by accident. We want upbeat, optimistic, resilient people. After all, you can't consistently provide exceptional customer service if you look at the world as a half-empty glass.

Maturity

Reacting appropriately in different situations is vital. We want to ensure that you will represent Sweetwater accurately both in and out of the workplace by demonstrating common sense, sound judgement, and integrity.

A Proactive Personality

We always try to hire smart, self-motivated professionals who don't need constant cheerleading and direction. We're looking for the type of employee who says, "Please let me do that, too," instead of, "I can't possibly get all that done."

Computer Literacy

The pace here is very fast and our level of productivity is quite high. Therefore, it's important to be computer-savvy with good typing skills, have experience with a broad array of computer applications, and possess the ability to multi-task effectively.

Egoless Attitude

Yes, you have to have a strong desire to be the very best, but an even stronger mindset to serve. We are a team in every sense of the word. There are no corporate or individual turf wars here - we are only here to serve our customers, and work for the benefit of the company as a whole. There's no "i" in "team"... or in "Sweetwater."

Great Communication Skills

Every open position at Sweetwater requires you to do one thing well: communicate with others. Whether via email, telephone, or face-to-face conversation, it is vital that every one of our employees is able to provide clear, concise, relevant, and simple information. And yes... around here, spelling does count.

Career-minded

Our business model is based on developing long-term relationships with customers, so it only makes sense for us to hire people who want to be here for a long time. We aren't interested in someone who plans to come to Fort Wayne and "try the job out" for a year or two. We really do think of each other as family, and family is all about being in it for the long haul.

To apply, fill out the online application under "Current Openings" for the position you desire. You are free to send a supporting electronic resume to our Vice President of Human Resources, Jeff McDonald, but we'll first need to have you fill out our online application. If you have questions, feel free to call (800) 222-4700 and ask for our Career Center.
